Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Once three women from Raleigh found out who Freddie Couples is, they proclaimed him their favorite golfer at the U.S. Open.  Now they are on the lookout for him.

“Oh gosh! He’s so cute,” Debbie England said. The trio like Tiger Woods too.

Debbie, who has her own real estate firm, is at the Championship combining networking, shopping, and fun with her friends, Caroline Sterling and Shelly Kangas.

“We don’t know much about golf, but we know a lot about shopping,” Shelly said.

They have taken full advantage of the Merchandise Pavilion, all three sporting cute U.S. Open hats, with more purchases waiting in storage. The women plan to make one more pass through that venue before heading home after the practice rounds on Tuesday.

“We’re just corporate ladies taking the day off,” said Caroline, director of sales and marketing for Homewood Suites.

The three declined to give their ages.

“Just say we’re young enough to have fun, but old enough not to care if anyone thinks we’re crazy,” Caroline said.

Goosen is Hot, Hot, Hot

Three golf buddies, cooling off under the trees, decided the weather was too hot in the bleachers but the action was not hot enough in the shade.

“We’re too far away to see any action,” complained Barbara Arthur, of Charlotte.

Barbara was spending the day taking in the practice rounds with her golf buddy, Donna Bilby of Cheraw, S.C. and Nancy Hilliard of Columbia, S.C.

“We’re not sure we like practice rounds,” Donna said. “It’s too hard to know where we’re going or who’s playing.”

Barbara’s on the lookout for Retief Goosen.

“He is unbelievably hot,” she said.

Suddenly a commotion from the gallery reminded the women that they had become so busy answering a reporter’s questions they missed a prime photo opportunity. Fortunately, the golfer was not one of their idols.

“If it had been Retief, I’d have had to kill you,” Barbara deadpanned.
